Annual with glabrous stems, 90 cm tall.
Leaves petiolate, ovate to oblong, acuminate at apex, narrowed toward base, rather large, often with a large red spot.
Main axis of Inflorescence strongly cristate and lobed, with many small flowers below middle; flowers red, red-purple, orange or yellow, ca. 4 mm long; sepals 5; stamens 5.
Utricles ovoid, enveloped in persistent perianth. Seeds compressed-reniform.
